UH’s new initiative, UHealthy Hawaiʻi, demonstrates its commitment to improve health and health care in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific by leveraging the UH System’s health sciences programs and forging outside partnerships. UHealthy Hawaiʻi has the following primary areas of focus:
Ensure a Robust Statewide Health Workforce
Leverage the UH System—with its strong health sciences programs as well as faculty and students that provide health care services to the people of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific—to address the state’s health care workforce and service needs.
Discover & Innovate to Improve & Extend Lives
Build on UH’s legacy of high-quality, successful research and innovation to improve and extend lives by discovering solutions to locally-relevant and world-changing problems, including for Hawaiʻi’s multi-ethnic population and indigenous communities.
Promote Healthier Families & Communities
Champion prevention and wellness activities to improve community health; establish a Healthy Aging Initiative; address social determinants of health, including environmental health; tackle persistent health disparities, including in Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander populations; and foster further global health engagement.
Advance Health Policy
Drive impactful health policy by applying UH’s analytical and educational leadership to pressing health policy and economic issues in Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, and nationwide.
